Copenhagen Zoo shared great news a year ago: Now it finally happens

« We do not know if they will come out right away or if they should just take a little run. So it will be very exciting. I have set aside all day to enjoy the sight with our guests, » the director says.

A year ago, the Zoo could share the news that an anonymous benefactor had chosen to donate DKK 17 million to the new outdoor facility. An outdoor system that is now completed as an extension of the indoor plant that opened back in 1986.

The new framework will enable the social human monkeys to romp in the fresh air and thus give both animals and guests a whole new experience.

« Fortunately, we are experiencing a great interest in our work to preserve the endangered animals of the world, and that work is more relevant than ever. In the case of chimps it has for several years been a great desire for us to give them more space to unfold, but we simply did not have the economy with us, » explains the director and continues:

« I think I am talking on the whole zoo’s behalf when I say that we can hardly wait to see our chimpanzees follow this year’s seasons from the outside. In fact, the new outdoor facility was a prerequisite for us to keep the species here in the zoo, » says Pernille Mehl.

Therefore, there is with great humility and gratitude that she sends her mind to the generous benefactor who has chosen to be anonymous.

« In the zoo, animal welfare and guest experience go hand in hand, and we are constantly working to develop the zoo in the animals’ favor. To do so, we are deeply dependent on the means we get from foundations, sponsors and private individuals whose hearts knock as much for animal welfare and nature conservation as they do with us.
