Cooperation between female movements in the region is the only way to remain persistent
The focus on our struggle is workers’ rights. We require dignified working conditions, equal salaries for equal work and work with equal value. Unpaid homework must be recognized and valued. We use all democratic strategies and tactics to protect our human rights, network members say
Fama shared the program and future steps on the network
There have always been very strong women in this area. There were strong female activists who managed to join, organize, create a network … Thus, eighty years ago the anti -fascist front of the Women (AF) was created – the movement of women during World War II in Macedonia, and today it is the forerunner of the regional feminist anti -fascist network. On the occasion of May 9, Victory Day over Fascism, the Friedrich Ebertt Foundation and the regional feminist anti -fascist network Fama publicly shared the work program and future steps at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Members of Fama, Nita Starova, Sanela Skrijelj and Irena Cvetkovic, reminded us of the international heritage of the AF, their dominant goals, but also of the battles that have yet to be conquered. They reminded that the gender revolution is unfinished and that we are very far from actual equality, that women are still not in sufficient number of decisive positions, are still less paid for jobs of the same value, pregnant workers have no proper protection. In rural areas, women face lack of access to basic services, unequal distribution of property, lack of kindergartens, and women farmers still demand their right to compensation for maternity leave… A list that is really long for the list.
During the event, Fama also allowed all interested to join the network and make their contribution to building a different world – a world of peace, equality and sustainable development.
– Communion is our strength. Our predecessors knew that power was in association, not in individualism. By learning from them, but also from one another, we can develop better strategies and communities of resistance to growing authoritarian trends, which always hit women and remaining vulnerable groups first. Cooperation between women’s movements, nets and organizations and activists in our region is the only way to stay connected and persistent, as opposed to the everyday life we live in. This is how we become more visible and our voice becomes stronger. We have to clearly show that we are here, determined to defend our acquired rights, and continue the struggle for gender equality – said Sanela Skrijelj, one of the members of Fama.
They also presented the 21st century anti -fascist manifesto, ie the regional feminist anti -fascist network Fama, which contains the goals and efforts of Fama.
– We are determined to defend the conquered women’s rights, the benefits of the feminist movement and to continue the struggle for complete equality. We, anti -fascists, bring society the ideas and practices of equality, respect for diversity and personal autonomy, solidarity, freedom and justice as the basic values of the feminist movement and as our vision of society. Our choice are peace, disarmament and well -being. We are doing our societies to become democratic, and our states to associate with all kinds of cooperation, mutual respect and respect. We advocate for societies based on freedom, equality, human rights and the rule of law, social justice and equal opportunities, the right to a healthy life and a healthy environment – this is just a segment of the fascist manifesto of the 21st century.
The network is made up of individual members of activists – volunteers, artistic, scientific, trade unions, politicians, NGO activists, Rabotnicki, farmers, unemployed, belonging to all minorities who share the same values and goals.
– The focus of our struggle is workers’ rights. We require dignified working conditions, equal salaries for equal work and work with equal value. Unpaid homework must be recognized and valued. We use all democratic strategies and tactics to protect our human rights. We defend all citizens and citizens for whom there are no adequate social and institutional guarantees to protect their rights, and especially the rights of girls, multiple discriminated women and women who have experienced violence. We solidarize with movements struggling for peace, freedom, democracy, a healthy environment and gender equality in our societies, Europe and the world. That is our internationalism. With this Manifesto we confirm that we remain connected, brave and unique in our resistance. We commit that on the foundations of anti -fascist values we will build creative societies of peace, equality, justice and solidarity – the members of Fama underlined.
Objectives of their program are to strengthen the transnational female anti -fascist network, creating spaces for imagining and building new political horizons based on care and justice for all, developing strategic responses to radical right -wing movements and protophasist initiatives, as well as developing solidarity between different women.
As the next step, this year they begin with activities for the network to work together for concrete and social changes that improve the daily life of women in the country and the region, exchange of experiences and best practices, organize joint support actions, when there is a need for it.
