COOP: The global crisis did not prevent Estonia with eggs for Easter
Although the deficiency of chicken eggs caused by bird influenza, shaking the world – and especially the American market – begins to affect demand in our region, and the virus itself spreads to Europe, the prices of prices have not yet reached the consumers in Estonia. According to COOP, this week, on the eve of Easter, sales of chicken eggs in Estonia grew to 70%.
In Coop Eesti stores, chicken egg purchases this week reach a peak, exceeding the usual weekly norm by 60–70%. Already in March it was noticeable that sales of chicken eggs are higher than last year: according to COOP, in March they sold an average of 18% more eggs than for the same period a year ago.
“Easter traditionally increases the demand for chicken eggs, and this year was no exception. Demand began to grow markedly already in the last week of March, and therefore this week the volumes of purchases of chicken eggs on the COOP network as a whole reach their peak, exceeding the usual level by 60–70%, ”said Oliver Rista, procurement director of COOP Eesti. The most popular product is still the product of 3 series-packaging of 10 medium-sized eggs (M).
“If you look by months, then this year the demand for chicken eggs as a whole is higher than in the past. For example, in March, an average of 18% more eggs were sold than last year. At the same time, it is worth considering that last year passionate Friday came on March 29, and in this on April 18, ”added Rist.
The price of chicken eggs primarily affects the method of keeping chickens: free walking, floor or cellular content, as well as market demand. According to COOP purchasing director, despite the global crisis, chicken egg prices are still stable for consumers in Estonia. “According to the manufacturers, the influence of bird flu, which devastated the United States, and caused by egg deficiency, is already felt. Fortunately, for the Estonian consumer, this has not yet led to an increase in prices, but, unfortunately, it is necessary to reckon with the fact that bird flu began to spread in Europe, ”Rist said.
Coop prefers the local manufacturer
