Cooker who secretly filmed in showers on Scoutskamp also made images at work as a civil servant: « He is a broken man » (inland)

The 45-year-old man first came into the sights of the police and the court a few months ago. Then it became known that SD was the person who had secretly placed a camera in the showers at the camp of the Sascouts 8th Fos' t Vloedgat in Beringen in July last year. That camp was stopped immediately. Only after months SD apparently received his own remorse and he went to the police. The investigation into SD was then continued and that yielded new results.

« The 45-year-old man from Nieuwpoort is currently in jail on suspicion of voyeurism, » reports Veurne's public prosecutor's office. “He was arrested last month by the investigating judge in Veurne. The council chamber decided today to extend its arrest again. The man is said to have made images with hidden cameras during a scouts camp in the summer of 2023 and 2024, where he was present as a cooking parent. The public prosecutor's office identified ten adult victims in this file. « 

“Further research and reading his laptop revealed additional victims. They too would have been filmed with hidden cameras. An investigating judge progressed for these facts. In the meantime, several victims have also been identified in this file within both the work and personal environment of the suspect. The judicial investigation is in full swing. « 

Broken man

The man has been in jail since the beginning of February and had hoped to be released today. « We also asked the council chamber, but unfortunately they did not respond to that, » says his lawyer Fabienne De Smet. “That is a shame, especially because my client realizes that he needs help and had already started a process for that. That has now been interrupted by his arrest. He is a broken man and wants to return home quickly to get the help he needs. And that is not possible in prison. I can't say anything about the facts, but I can indicate that he is enormously ashamed of what he did. «

SD itself is freely known in Nieuwpoort at different associations. The man also worked as a civil servant at the city of Nieuwpoort and, according to his LinkedIn page, is active on the public domain and the Mobility cell. According to the public prosecutor, he would have secretly filmed people in his working environment. Very small cameras were found in the town hall with which he made images of colleagues.

In the meantime he can no longer do that, because the man was fired after being already known to be those who had placed the cameras on the Scoutskamp. The city of Nieuwpoort is therefore aware of the facts and cooperates in the investigation. « But I cannot respond to the facts themselves, » says Mayor Kris Vandecasteele.
