Conversation with poetess Biljana Stojanovska at the City Library in Skopje

Conversation with poetess Biljana Stojanovska, whose poem « While Sleeping » is a book of the month, will be held on Tuesday, May 6, at 7 pm at the Miladinov Brothers City Library – Skopje.
The conversation with Stojanovska is part of the big campaign « We read modern Macedonian authors ».

The moderator will be the literary critic Aleksandra Jurukovska, and the verses will be read by actor Andrej Serafimovski.
– Stojanovska is able to write verses for emptying the intestines and be poetic. It is able to give the songs an unexpected twist or effect of surprise, but it can also be unnoticeable in a fairy tale and delight us with magical realism. Tell us a story about the ice cream truck and the flavors of the summer in the middle of winter, but also to bang from gray concrete and bring us back to the reality of the hospital rooms where people are trying to restore their dignity and keep their heads on their shoulders.

Biljana Stojanovska was born in 1984. He has graduated from the Faculty of Philology « Blaze Koneski » in Skopje, at the Department of Macedonian Literature and South Slavic Literature. In 2015 she published her first collection of poetry « Words has no meaning » published by Antholog. He has won the 2017 Todor Shalovski Literary Prize for the book « Grinding apartment » (2018, « Galikul »). The « Displaying » apartment, as well as « while you sleep », were in the narrowest competition for the « Miladinov Brothers » award given by the « Struga Poetry Evenings ». « The Quest for Courage » is her fourth book, which is a children’s book, with illustrations by artist Vladimir Lukasz, published by « Strange Forest » (2024). Her poetry has been translated into English, German, Chinese, Serbian, Polish, Slovenian, and is also present in many Macedonian literature magazines and anthologies. Stojanovska works as a journalist.
With « While You Sleep » (edition of « Strange Forest »), the third cycle of the « We Read Contemporary Macedonian Authors » campaign, which features 24 books by as many authors. The campaign began in September 2022 and took place in cycles of eight months with as many authors and works.

In 2024 the City Library « Brothers Miladinovci » received this campaign the « Reading Culture » award awarded by the Macedonian Publishers Association.
