The consultations that took place on Tuesday between the cabinet of Minister of Pensions Jan Jambon (N-VA) and the delegation of the magistrates did not produce anything concrete. The Jambon cabinet repeated afterwards that earlier calculations of the magistrates were based on a « wrong premisse », while the magistrates were heard that « still no concrete impact calculation of all combined measures » was made.

Now that the actions of the magistrates are expanding, consultation again took place between the Jambon cabinet and the magistrates on Tuesday. The magistrates protest against the pension reforms of the De Wever government, but also sue the difficult working conditions in the judiciary.
At the Jambon cabinet, little more could be heard afterwards than what was also stated a week ago, after an earlier consultation. For example, it would have been on Tuesday about the calculation that the magistrates had made, who spoke of 30 to 40 percent loss of purchasing for magistrates on retirement, due to all measures together.
The Jambon cabinet says that this calculation is based on a « wrong premise », whereby the magistrates wrongly assumed that the limited indexation of the highest pensions would take place for decades. But Jambon guarantees that the measure only applies until 2029. Afterwards, it is normally indexed again, unless a new government decides otherwise of course. The Jambon Cabinet is so on the loss of purchasing power at 7 to 9 percent.
But the magistrates dispute that. The delegation of the magistrates can be heard that « still no concrete impact calculation of all combined measures » has been made. In addition to a budgetary reform such as the limited indexation of the highest pensions, there are also the pension reforms. This includes the abolition of the so -called preferential beads, or the favorable career break, which ensures that every career year counts for more than a year in the calculation of the pension. These pension reforms lead to a lower pension accrual.
So the consultation did not yield anything concrete. New consultation is already planned for at the beginning of June.
