Construction contracts for half of the Rail Baltica Basic Work / Day have been concluded in Estonia
RB Rail informs that Rail Baltic Estonia, the national implementer of the project, has signed an agreement with AS « Trev-2 Grupp » on the design and construction work for another 14 kilometers, which covers the section in Kerpla-Selja Rapla County.
« The Trev-2 Group will provide both design and construction work on various infrastructure elements at this stage. This includes Ahekenna and Noll viaducts, which will provide local transport connections with the new rail corridor, as well as Kerplas Ek products and the Greens of Greens for wild animals to move safely.
The agreement also provides for the construction of railway bridges over the rivers of Velika and Nurtu, as well as the creation of a Lihuvski animal tunnel. These structures will be implemented as part of the basic workout design and construction work.
The value of the Kerpla-Selja section design and construction contract is EUR 67.6 million excluding value added tax (VAT). The works will continue until the end of 2028, including at least eight kilometers of base embankment by 2027.
The construction agreement is funded by the European Infrastructure Connecting Instrument (EISI) and the Estonian budget.
Previously, representatives of SIA « European Railway Lines » (EDZL) pointed out to LETA that full -scale work in Latvia could begin in the basic rail project « Rail Baltica » in March or April this year. In Lithuania, however, 46.3 kilometers of Rail Baltica's basic rates and civil engineering structures from Kaunas to Panevezys are currently being built. Construction work in Lithuania needs to be expanded up to 114 kilometers by the end of this year, covering 43% of the entire first -stage line, according to information on the website of the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport.
It has already been reported that according to the latest RB Rail information, Rail Baltica's first round costs in the Baltics could reach EUR 14.3 billion, of which in Latvia – EUR 5.5 billion, but there is a potential savings of up to € 400 million from the optimization of technical solutions and other savings are possible.
The total cost of the project, according to cost and benefits analysis in the Baltics, can reach EUR 23.8 billion. In the previous cost and benefit analysis in 2017, the project would cost a total of € 5.8 billion.
The Rail Baltica project envisages the creation of a European standard railway line from Tallinn to the Lithuanian -Polish border so that the Baltic States can be further connected to other European countries. It is planned to build a new, 870 -kilometer European railway line (1435 mm) railway line with a maximum speed of 240 kilometers per hour.
