Constitutional Revision outside Montenegro’s priorities

Luís Montenegro, in his speech as an nominated prime minister, said Thursday that the constitutional revision is not a priority, unlike the increase in the income of families, workers and pensioners.

« The government will continue the work it has done. We are absolutely focused on responding to the main concerns of the Portuguese, » said Luís Montenegro in his first speech as an appointed prime minister.

« We will continue to transform the NHS, to give quality to the public school, to execute our public investment plan in housing, to give regulation and dignity in immigration, to reinforce the policing of proximity and sense of security of the Portuguese, » added Montenegro.

The prime minister also said that the government will « bet on a fiscal policy that may be one of the factors of retention of the younger ones. »

Montenegro says he will form a new government, thinking about the « next four years », with « many elements that move from the previous government » but with « renewed energy. »

It also says that AD has a relative but “robust” majority in parliament and does not want to exclude anyone from dialogue and will count on all political forces.

Shortly before, the President of the Republic had appointed Luis Montenegro to be prime minister of the second government that will head. The outrage of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa came after “the parliamentary viability of the new executive”.

The outrage of the prime minister took place 11 days after the early legislative elections of 18 May, which AD (PSD/CDS-PP) won, without absolute majority.

Today, the day after the results of the circles of emigration circles, which elect four deputies, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa repeated hearings to the PS, arrives and the PSD.

Article 187 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic states that « the prime minister is appointed by the President of the Republic, hearing the parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic and taking into account the electoral results. »

Luís Montenegro, who has been a prime minister since April 2 last year, after a cycle of eight years of governance of the PS, will form his second executive, which will be the XXV Constitutional Government.
