Constitutional Court approves « AD-COFT PSD/CDS » unanimously
The Constitutional Court (TC) unanimously approved the denomination “AD – PSD/CDS coalition”. The approval was confirmed this Thursday by the campaign director of this candidacy.
The TC had refused the first proposal “AD – Democratic Alliance – PSD/CDS” for early May 18 legislatures, claiming that it could mislead voters.
This is because this time it will not include the PPM, contrary to what happened in the elections of a year ago.
On Wednesday, the PSD and CDS-PP secretaries, Hugo Soares and Pedro Morais Soares, announced the new proposal at a press conference, which was approved at night by the national councils of the two parties unanimously.
On Monday, the decision of the Constitutional Court (CT) had been known to refuse the first denomination proposed because it could induce voters in error, given the “temporal proximity between legislative acts, about a year”, as well as the full repetition of the democratic alliance, but without the same protagonists.
According to the TC, there would be a risk of “voters to be able to think there is no difference between” the democratic alliance that won the elections in 2024 and the coalition that competes this year, “because the distinctive element in the designation under appreciation – PSD/CDS – does not appear enough to remove the existence of this risk”.
