Considerable damage after driving off -road
There has been considerable damage to the soil in Hólmsheiði due to buggy cars that have run across the soil where driving motor vehicles are prohibited.
A reporter talked to Ingolf Guðmundsson who was walking with his dog when he saw the cars. He has become accustomed to his arrival at Hólmsheiði and often seen buggy cars drive in the area, but not off-road.
Ingólfur says that there were about 10 to 15 cars in the area and that they had, among other things, drove over the bush, moss and other vegetation that caused some damage.
According to the Nature Conservation Act, off -road is prohibited.
Problems that need to be dealt with
Sigrún Ágústsdóttir, CEO of the Nature Conservation Agency, was currently abroad when a journalist caught up with her, but she had not heard about this matter specifically.
Sigrún says that driving off -road is a problem that needs to be addressed but that the challenge is to get around.
« Evaries are also received such announcements and it is just very important to drive on roads and respect nature, » says Sigrún.
