Congolese government and rebel group M23 announces the fires during conversations on permanent ceasefire
The government of Congo and Rebelgroep M23 announced on Wednesday evening in a joint statement to stop their fights in the east of the country and to work on A permanent ceasefirereport the French newspaper Le Monde and press agency AFP. The surprising announcement follows conversations in Doha, where Qatar acts as a mediator.
The statement was read on national television by a spokesperson for M23. He said the ceasefire will apply during the conversations and « up to its completion. »
