Námestovo. His great -grandfather went on a motorcycle with a pile, from which he sold ice cream in Námestovo and the surrounding villages. The 50s of the last century were written.

People, in addition to chocolate, vanilla or strawberry, did not know other flavors. Jozef Diko was a pioneer, he started offering his customers an ice cream with an unimaginable taste.

Older squares remember him with nostalgia to this day. When he closed his confectionery in 1982, no one was found in the family to continue the confectionery craft.

Until 2022, when the ice cream tradition of Dikovcov renewed Joseph’s great -grandson Jarolím.

The coffee flavor was an absolute exoticism

« We do not know exactly when the great -grandfather started selling ice cream in Námestovo, it was around 1950 or shortly before him, » says Jarolím Diko younger.

« He walked on a motorcycle behind which he had a freezer karick with ice cream boxes. He bypassed the surrounding villages, but his main location was Námestovo. »

Later, Jozef Diko opened a confectionery in the town. It was located directly in his house, currently housing Coop Jednota.

Joseph was trained by a confectioner. In the summer he offered mainly ice cream, out of season he baked cakes and desserts. He loved his craft, love and enthusiasm for him also put into his products.

« The great -grandfather came up with something unprecedented for that time, he started to produce coffee ice cream, » says Jaroli. « In times when people did not know other flavors than chocolate or vanilla, it was considered something exotic. »
