Conclave after Francis? Head of the Ukrainian Church about the needs of the world
In an interview with the Polish Press Agency, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church pointed to the need for a pope who would be praying. The interview took place in Warsaw.
Archbishop Szewczuk talks about reconciliation. « We need a pope – diplomat »
Archbishop Szewczuk pointed out that the successor of Pope Francis should above all be a man of prayer. He emphasized that prayer is crucial because it allows God to receive everything necessary to fulfill the mission. IN Ukraineas the hierarch says, you need a pope who really prays.
The archbishop also pointed to the need for a shepherd who is ready to give his life for his sheep. Such a pope should enjoy the conversion of one sinner more than ninety -nine righteous. Szewczuk emphasized that nowadays we need a pope who will build bridges of reconciliation and heal the memory of nations capable of defeating the war.
Do you need a pope during conflicts?
The hierarch reminded the words of Pope Francis, who spoke about the beginning of World War III, taking place in different parts of the world. Szewczuk estimated that we need a pope who will find the right words and gestures, needed for nations, countries and local churches.
« During the prayer, man receives everything that is necessary from God to fulfill his mission. In Ukraine we need a pope who really prays, » he said.
He also recalled a symbolic gesture Pope Franciswhich at the beginning of the pontificate, after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, released the pigeon as a sign of peace. The pigeon, on which the crow attacked, managed to free himself and escape. Archbishop Szewczuk believes that this pigeon symbolized Ukraine, a nation wanting to build their freedom in peace, despite attacks.
« But this pigeon managed to free himself and escape. We all wondered what all this could mean, » said the archbishop.
