Composer during the day, punk at night

Kristján Alexander Reiners Friðriksson found his young calling in life. Music. He started playing instruments early and performing at a concert and not long afterwards he realized that he also had an urgent need to share. As a result, only one job was considered, a composer. It was calm for all the years.

« I have a great need to share and get a lot out of seeing interest and students make progress. That is why I couldn't be in a better job, ”says Kristján, but he works as a composer in the elementary school in Akranes.

Kristján himself was a student at a teenage level in the elementary school, where his interest in teaching was ignited. « It was at the time I realized that I wanted to teach. I found a refuge in the music and it gained some funny form in the teaching, ”he says.

His teachers played their part in it, not least Flosi Einarsson, who later had to hire him to work at the school. « I connected well to Flosi when I was a student and got good guidance from him. Then I often got to be in the composer after school, usually with some of my friends with me. Immediately there, I felt very strong that this was my place in life. « 

Himself is submerged in hardcore punk

Kristján himself is an active musician and is a member of several bands; Most of them belong to hardcore punk and other extremes. « I don't create a curriculum for 5th and 6th grade around such music, » he replies smiling, asked how this goes together. « Although I get an outlet for my music creation in extremist music, my music interest does not start and ends there. Teaching is one and my personal expansion. Besides, I have come a long way, for example, was in a classic choir when I lived in the United States. I listen to the whole hell, take a period in the other and these policies and my knowledge lies widely. Because of my work, I have to have the putt on the pulse about what is happening today and put me into different things, ”says Kristján, recalling that he is not the only rocker who has taught music in the country's elementary schools. « Both Thrain (Árni Baldvinsson) and Gunnar Ben in Skálmöld have taught compositions. »

– Is there any music that you would not share at all?

« It's a good question. I don't think. I have long since got rid of all the prejudices about music and only take it well if the kids want to learn songs that I cursed in sand and ashes when I was twenty, ”he says smiling. « As a teacher, you don't have to block anything. Still, I think of the black metal that I would stop, if it was unlikely that any student would be up to me. However, it is not on musical grounds but ideological, but these achievements, National Socialist Black Metal, NSBM, adhere to neo -Nasism and preaches the superiority of the white race. It doesn't seem to me to be crazy and would sit down with the person and ask: Do you hear a partner, are you sure you want to go there? Otherwise, this is more likely that one would have to deal with young musicians than students in elementary school. « 

– Is this surface on the surface in Iceland?

« No, fortunately. Still, you never know what is going down, they are too much online.  »
