Competitions take place on the Augsburg ice channel despite a lack of water
Shortly before the first big canoe weekend of the season in Augsburg is a decision to Ice channel Fell: The national qualification in the canoe slalom and kayak cross on Saturday and Sunday, April 26th and 27th, takes place on the Olympic route.
Due to the lack of water in the past few days, it was unclear whether the canoeing slalom qualification on the route was possible. In the room it stood to move the trips to the parallel « youth route ». However, the ice channel should be flooded at four o’clock from Saturday morning in order to be able to carry out the competitions on both days, the responsible hydropower operators said.

Too little rain caused empty Augsburg ice channel
Originally supposedly can be announced yesterday on Thursday morningwhether the important competitions take place on the ice channel. However, the decision was postponed again because the organizers had hoped for rain in the Allgäu and in the mountains so that more water comes into the Lech.
Most recently, it had rained too little in Swabia and especially in the Allgäu. As a result, there is too little water in the Forgensee, the water reservoir for the Lech near Roßhaupten, in order to drain larger quantities into the Lech. However, as long as the outflow amount in the Lech is less than 50 cubic meters per second, the derivation for the city center and the residual water for the river bed of the Lechs below the dam at the high drainage Priority in front of the ice channel.
Second part of the canoe slalom qualification in the Markkleeberg canoe center
Already at the Canoe World Cup 2022 Was too little water in the ice channel because of water lack. At that time, the city of Augsburg had accumulated the youth route so that enough water flowed into the Olympic route. However, this had meant a high financial and logistical effort. It was therefore unclear whether this effort would also be operated for the qualifications.
After the qualification in Augsburg, the second part of the canoe slalom qualification will take place in the Markkleeberg canoe center near Leipzig on May 3 and 4. On the two weekends it is to be determined which German candidates can start this year at major international events such as the European Championship, the World Cups or the World Cup in Australia.
