Commemorative events will celebrate 100 years from the attack at Holy Sunday Church

On April 16, the 100th anniversary of the deadliest attack in the new Bulgarian and European history, in which, from a powerful explosion under the dome of the temple, 130 people and over 400 were wounded were killed under the dome of the temple. The attack was funded and assisted in the organization by a Comintern, led by Moscow, and carried out by the military department of the Bulgarian Communist Party, which after 1919 was already in the prehension and became a section of the Communist International. What aimed at the attack was not documented in a decision by the party’s central leadership, the historians say, though the commemorative slab of the wall of the temple was written that the purpose was to kill Tsar Boris the Third. The organizers wanted to behead the state from the political, military and police leadership « in order to cause a revolution » – this is the vast description of the motive in the indictment in the subsequent trial, which pronounces three death sentences and three other part -time. In addition to the lawsuit, about 200 Bulgarians have fallen in the state out -of -court countermeasures of the state, most of which, although with left -wing beliefs, did not support the armed actions at all.

On the occasion of the tragic anniversary, scientific institutes and public figures are organizing thematic conferences and commemorative events that will be held this week because of the coincidence this year of the day of the attack with the Holy Week. The same was the coincidence 100 years ago – April 16, 1925, is Great Thursday, before the Resurrection of Christ.
