Column | Our Mowgli – NRC
Dion Graus (PVV) rose above himself during the wolvende debate in the Lower House. In an emotional but glowing argument, he broke a lance for ‘De Wolf’. From behind the pulpit he warned the animal: turn around at the border!
« Because De Wolf is having a hard time in the Netherlands! »
According to Dion, the Netherlands is not Wolvenland. The animal is hunted here, and worse. If only he had the resources that his party colleague, Minister Marjolein who deals with the foreigners, does. At least she can have leaflets printed in foreign languages and places signs on the borders on which you can read that it is not fun here, but unfortunately the wolf cannot read and write.
He could, so to speak, be the best to crawl there himself, because if there is a Dutchman close to the wolves, it is Dion. I am not saying he is a new Mowgli – out of the main character Junglea human child that grew up in a wolf rod and whose I as a former cub of Scouting ‘De Markesteen’ from Velp know everything – but I don’t exclude it either.
It would explain a lot. Just like a wolf, Dion has an above average smell. In various interviews he announced that scent is very important to him. He knows that he smells nice. So tasty that he doesn’t have to use deodorant as one of the few people. Coincidentally, perhaps: wolves also do not use deodorant, at most to play with if they have raided a Kruidvat location in the east of the country with a pack. And just like the wolf, Dion is also shy. From him all the fuss about his person does not have to, he only comes out of the forest for the most important thing like Tuesday at the big wolvende debate. And he bite, just like the wolf, also getting rid of himself. What has ever happened in and around his den remains shadowy, but Dion has never been convicted, probably because the judges also know that you cannot blame an animal’s instinct. That is why Dion does not blame the wolves for sometimes eating meat. Of course he has sometimes told them that they can become better vegetarian, but he also knows: they are not baked that way.
For Dion there is only one body that judges right and wrong: the Divine Court. And there they will never condemn an animal because of its instinct, but a person that animals do! Caroline van der Plas was able to put that warning in her cow bag. Dion Graus would prefer to take all one hundred and fifty ‘Dutch’ wolves in the house, but more realistic is that, if necessary with a backpack full of subsidies, he will again join a pack and then takes it on a trek to the East. For this plan, also within the PVV, there is a majority.
