Colombian presidential candidate shot at a rally in Bogota
Colombia’s candidate for next year’s election, Senator Miguel Uribe, was shot in the capital Bogota, world agencies said.
According to authorities, the attack is considered an assassination. Videos on social media shows a 39-year-old politician giving a rally in a western city when gunshots are heard. In other shots Uribe lies on the ground, bloody.
Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan said Uribe was transferred to an emergency medical facility. One suspect was arrested, and according to health authorities, the senator was hit by three bullets, two in the head. According to the Colombian newspaper El Thimpo, the striker is a 15-year-old boy.
The Colombian government, led by the left -wing bloc, strongly condemned the attack, calling it « an attack on democracy, freedom of thought and the right to political participation ».
Miguel Uribe is a member of the Democratic Center party, leader of former President Alvaro Uribe, who was in power from 2002 to 2010. Miguel Uribe announced his candidacy last October.
Before it was announced that the attacker was arrested, Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez offered a $ 700,000 prize for information to help identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
