Cocaine records at Keflavik Airport


Although only five months have passed of the year, already in record years when it comes to cocaine, cannabis and oxycontins, which are held at Keflavik Airport.

Recently, there have been some issues concerning the import of cocaine into the country through Keflavik Airport. Police officer Jón Halldór Sigurðsson, who is investigating an investigation into organized crime at the Suðurnes police, says there has been a significant increase in such cases.

« There has been a great increase between years and we are falling in the record year, » says Jón Halldór, but the police have already seized 40.26 kilos of cocaine at the airport so far this year.

An enormous increase will continue

« Given the development, it will continue, this may be at least 60 kilos at the end of the year, » says Jón Halldór.

This is a significant increase from previous years, but in 2024 the South Sudanese police seized 35,489 kg of cocaine on the border and by 2023 it was 41,245 kilos.

At the same time, 9.78 liters of cocaine fluid has been seized at Keflavik Airport this year, while last year the volume was 3.23 liters. By 2023, no cocaine fluid was held on the field.

The Suðurnes police have seized 109,648 kg of cannabis on the border so far this year.

Likewise, there has been a significant increase in cases where the police are seizing cannabis and oxycontin.

Now that almost five months have passed this year, police have seized 20576 tablets of oxycontini and imitations of the material at Keflavik Airport. There is a huge increase, but in 2024 the police seized 7526 tablets and by 2023 the tablets were 10131.

The South Sudanese police have also seized 109,648 kg of cannabis on the border so far this year, but in 2024 the total volume was 172,706 kg. In 2023, that figure was 125,230 kg.
