As Harry Rockpelnis, leader of the ZZS Saeima faction told LETA, public spending should be reduced to channel more money to defense while in the memorandum more « such round phrases » and the ZZS would expect more specific ideas in reducing public spending.
The politician added, however, that it is not at the moment whether the Memorandum ZZS would sign.
It has previously been reported that the Memorandum will not sign the government’s « Progressive » party. At the same time, the party is open to a negotiation on the efficiency of public spending and the exclusion of unnecessary action from public administration. The Memorand’s project aims to reduce public spending by EUR 850 million in 2026, or approximately 5% of the total expenditure of the state budget for 2025 to channel them to the state budget to increase defense and other joint priorities and to reduce the budget deficit.
It is planned that the Memorandum should be signed by the Cabinet -forming parties and Latvian business organizations, including the LDDK, LCCI, the Latvian Financial Industry Association (LFNA) and the Foreign Investors Council (IOP).
