Climate Minister Norbert Tettschnig: « In any case, it is wise to swap your fossil heating » – Diepresse.com

Climate Minister Norbert Tettschnig wants to achieve the same amount with less money. Instead of promoting everything, he wants to make it clear to people what it will cost if they do nothing.

The recently bloated climate and environmental area counts, As « Die Presse » reportedto the great losers of the double budget of Finance Minister Martin Marterbauer (SPÖ). Instead of recently 4.9 billion, only 2.2 for this year and only 1.4 billion euros are available for 2026. Nevertheless, the responsible minister Norbert Tettschnig (ÖVP) is convinced that the reduced means can achieve the same effect. « We do no less climate protection, but more efficient climate protection, » he said on Wednesday in front of journalists. Each funding that has been used must have more effect than before.

Using the example of popular funding for heating boilers and thermal renovation: recently, a funding volume of 3.7 billion euros was scheduled until 2025. The state took over three quarters of the costs – the demand was correspondingly high, and the funds have been reserved since the end of 2024. Around 70,000 projects will be processed this year, but in 2026 there will be new grants. By 2030, however, only 1.8 billion euros are still available. Unlike before, the money will be awarded in annual tranches at 360 million euros to prevent the market from overheating.

New grants only from 2026

The same applies to the funding for low -income households. Here, too, the budgeted billion will be paid out in tranches for 200 million euros each year. The exact funding conditions, such as the funding rate, are only developed when it is clear which funding will be continued. The German Prognos Institute should check the previous grants for their efficiency by summer. At the same time, the Ministry of Finance has also set a working group to evaluate the funding.

In any case, the sponsoring rail for heating boilers for low -income households will continue and ended with one billion by 2030. The district heating expansion still receives 267 million euros by 2030, and 30 million euros are made available annually for the repair bonus. « In our area, the trick can achieve the same effect with less money, » says section leader Jürgen Schneider. Because funding is only one way to reach the climate goals. Rumors that the government now wants to rely on hard bans, for example of gas heating, ministers gives a cancellation. « Forbids trigger negative reflexes. We want to go a different way, » he says.

Oil and gas become more expensive

Instead, people would have to be better informed about what the expansion of the Europe -wide CO2-Mandels on the areas of traffic and space heat for their future energy bills. He does not want to speculate about how much more expensive car driving or heating with oil and gas. But « In any case, it is wise to exchange your fossil heating ».

By summer, the climate protection law should also be available, which should clarify how Austria will reach its EU climate goals-and who is responsible for this in the country.
