Citizenship or tribalism?

Citizenship or tribalism?

There is only a healthy way to face the difficult period that Portuguese society is passing as a result of the irresponsibility of politicians who led us to early legislative elections.

This formula goes through a healthy alienation of the ongoing party campaigns, translated, the ‘Against Sensu’, in a huge and unexpected participation in the electoral act.

The drastic low of TV shares and the systematic refusal of the indoctrination provided by round tables, commentary benches and other similar paraphernalia, (the captured West’s samples) may help to understand that it is not legitimate that an irresponsible and ignorant elite is replaced to citizens with the responsibility of the destinations of the country.

Especially because the main options have been unequivocally identified and, as such, perceived by the ordinary citizen.

Some recognize that a meritorious governance work was underway, which has been interrupted but should continue, because permanent instability and ‘start over’ will be negative. These should and will surely vote in AD.

There will be those who think the current government has not solved, in 11 months, problems for more than a decade and feel able to do better, because they consider being anointed with unassailable ethical and moral superiority. Those who think they will probably vote for the PS.

Then there are all the others who make permanent instability, disbelief in the democratic regime and commitments of the country, their ‘way of life’ and are permanently oriented under the complex of frustrated dreams of the ‘sing tomorrows’.

These, because they know that they will never be called to show their abilities, will vote at the right and left extremes, supported by unrealistic and demagogic proposals or fossilized ideologies.

A year ago we knew the governance commitments of the main party forces for four years, underline, four years.

Voters should be release, therefore, to always hear them always saying the same things even though, for lack of new subject, the debate is guided by this time for picardia, misinformation and personal attack.

But what is more serious is that it is also focused on combating institutions that the Republic created in democratic freedom, total transparency and significant consensus.

Unfortunately the country was not spared a depressing spectacle, played by many of the political agents in electoral dispute and leveraged by the agenda of a media that seems to have, at least temporarily, of its power of moderation.

And that would justify its recognized and self -proclaimed qualification as 4th power in democracy.

Evil is done and no matter how much more or less responsibilities are looking for as it will always be possible to find arguments’ how much it is enough to endure their interest.

But the deep desire of the country is that this stage is quickly concluded, with the indifference it deserves, but without prejudice to the mobilization that imposes itself, so that, at the end of the process, a political scenario of stability, confidence and hope in the future is obtained.

Governing fragility and general instability would always be a negative factor, but to occur in a scenario of great international uncertainty, they will constitute a true tragedy.

The Nobel Prize for the Paul Kruger economy has just made a solemn warning about Portugal.

But the worst scenario is not yet inevitable.

It is sufficient for voters to privilege their commitment to citizenship instead of opting for the obligation of tribalism, which means to put the interest of the country, above their party loyalty, and vote in accordance with their conscience.
