Cipulis becomes the head coach of the Latvian bobsleigh team / day

Another former Latvian pilot Edgars Maskalāns will be assisted by head coach for Cipulis, who will also address technical issues. In turn, the LBSF was approved by the Olympic vice -champion Eric Franke from Germany as a general physical fitness coach.

Cipulis finished his career after the 2023/2024 season and took part in his career at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and won the title of world vice -champion, piloting the four crew. After his career, he helped teams of other countries prepare for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Mascalan pilot Latvian bobsleigh crews from 2006 to 2012, when he closed his career due to injuries. During these years, the Mascalan -led quad won the 2011 World Cup in St. Moritz, but a year later won fourth place in the European Championship in Altenberg.

After closing the athlete’s career, Mascalan became the coach of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), working with both new athletes and parabobsleighers.

Franke, on the other hand, is a former German bobsleigh pusher who has helped to get high results for the crews of Johannes Lohner, Niko Walter and other pilots. In 2018, he won the Olympic Silver Award with Walter’s four -man -piled four, but worked as a physical fitness coach after his career.

LBSF reports that on Sunday the Latvian bobsleigh team started the first training camp for the offseason.

Last season, the Jacob’s Calenda team won ninth place in both doubles and four in the World Cup, but in the World Cup took 11th place in the doubles competition and 15th.

Pilot Renārs Grantiņš team played the season in the European Cup, where he won second place in the two -place competition, but took ninth in the four, securing two places for the Latvian team next season, both in the doubles and four.
