Ciolacu says that Romania meets all democratic standards
Romania fulfills all the democratic standards regarding the organization of the presidential elections in May, said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, on Saturday, in the meeting, at the Victoria Palace, with the vice -president of the Federal Commission in the United States, James Edwin ‘Trey’ Trainor III.
According to a statement of the Government, transmitted AGERPRES, during the meeting, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu pointed out that the tasks of the Executive regarding the electoral process are exclusively of logistical components of organization, and through the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prevent incidents on the day of the vote, to ensure the guard of the voting bulletins and the technical training of the people.
« The government has nothing to do with how the popular vote is expressed, but it is strictly involved in issues of organization, both in the country and in the Romanian communities in Diaspora, » said Prime Minister Ciolacu, according to the quoted statement.
Also, Prime Minister Ciolacu stressed that he was vehemently opposed to any initiatives to limit, censure or close various social platforms during the election campaign.
« Freedom of expression is a basic principle from which we cannot abdicate in democracy, » said Prime Minister Ciolacu, shows the executive statement.
For his part, the American official appreciated the opening of the Romanian authorities for the dialogue and transparency manifested by all the institutions involved in organizing the electoral process, respectively the permanent electoral authority and the central electoral bureau.

Romania is a powerful democracy because it has the means to fight against manipulations that want to destroy its democratic fiber, « said the vice -president of the Federal Commission in the United States, James Edwin ‘Trey’ Trainor III.
The meeting at the Victoria Palace also participated: from the Government of Romania-Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, and the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Radu Oprea, and from the American-US ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Kavalec, and the Councilor of the Vice President.
