Ciolacu puts the CNA to the wall: « is unqualified »
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu believes that the decision of the National Council of Audiovisual (CNA) on the elimination of opinion materials of some journalists is a skid from democracy and from the right to free expression.
‘The CNA decision regarding the elimination of the opinion materials of some journalists represents a skid from democracy and from the right to free expression. The respect of the fundamental rights provided in the Constitution is mandatory for all state institutions. Opinions should not be confused with information and should never be censored. Each one is free to agree with an opinion expressed in the public space, « Ciolacu wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
He added that ‘it is unqualified’ for members of the CNA to justify their sanctioning decisions ‘ – on political opinions and personal reasons, not on the law’.
‘The CNA must urgently review their operating principles, and the specialized committees in the Parliament will make a serious debate when discussing the annual activity report of the institution. The main role of the CNA is to ensure a civilized and balanced framework for public debates, and not to obstruct or transform them into a ministry of truth ‘, concluded the prime minister.
The CNA decided, in Wednesday, to eliminate a show by Marius Tucă from the YouTube platform, because it violates provisions of the audiovisual law.
