Christian Braad Thomsen is dead
Christian Braad Thomsen belonged to the rare category of artists who both wrote, thought and created films with equal strength.
Now he has passed away, 81 years old, found dead in his bed at the nursing home, where he spent his last time.

According to his long -time partner, Bente Petersen, the death happened unexpectedly after a sudden cardiac arrest.
« I was with him yesterday where he was doing well, and we talked about everything between heaven and earth as we usually do, » she tells Ekstra Bladet.
Christian Braad Thomsen graduated from the Danish Film School in 1969 and debuted as director with the film ‘Dear Irene ‘ In 1971.
Since followed marked works such as’Coke in the backdrop ‘‘The blue monk ‘ and the documentary ‘Karen Blixen – Storyteller ‘.
With sharp attitudes and attention to detail, he often interfered with the cultural debate and not only marked himself as a filmmaker, but also as a writer and critic.
Many will also remember him as part of the DR2 program ‘The taste judges’where he provided both insight and edge.
Since 1992 he received the Life’s Life -Last Honorary Writ of Honor, and in 1999 he was honored with Carl Th. Dreyer the award. In the rationale it read, among other things:
« This man is one of the great fire souls who happily burns his light at both ends. He is an idiosyncratic idealist who challenges the system. »
Braad Thomsen leaves behind an extensive work and a significant voice in Danish cultural life. He was previously married to visual artist Jytte Rex, with whom he got his daughter Rosemaria Rex.
One has become silent, but the traces he put will live on in words, pictures and the many hearts he has touched.
