Chinese government’s position to counter abuse US tariffs
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PR China:
Recently, the United States has introduced customs duties for all its trading partners, including China. This seriously violates the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, severely violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), seriously undermines the multilateral trade system based on rules and seriously violates the global economic order. The Chinese government strongly condemns and decisively opposes the move.
By taking such action, the United States defies the basic laws of the economy and market principles, neglecting the balanced results achieved through multilateral trade negotiations, ignoring the fact that the United States has long benefited from international trade and using tariffs as a weapon. This is a typical act of unilateralism, protectionism and economic abuse.
Under the guise of « reciprocity » and « righteous », the United States is playing a zero -sum game to aspire to « America in the first place » and « American exception ». He is trying to use the tariffs to overthrow the existing international economic and trade order, to put the US interests over the general good of the international community and to promote US hegemonic ambitions at the cost of the legitimate interests of all countries. Such action will inevitably face widespread opposition from the international community.
China is an ancient civilization and a land of decency and fairness. The Chinese people appreciate honesty and goodwill. We do not cause problems, nor are we intimidated by it. Pressing and threats are not the right way to deal with China. China has taken and will continue to take decisive measures to protect its sovereignty, security and development interests. Chinese-American economic relations should be mutually useful and victorious for both sides. The United States should go along with the common aspirations of the peoples of both countries and the world and, given the main interests of the two countries, stop using tariffs as a weapon of economic suppression of China and stop undermining the legitimate development rights of the Chinese people.
As the second largest economy and the second largest market for consumer goods, China is committed to opening the world, no matter how the international situation is changing. We will continue to promote the opening by high standards. We will constantly expand the institutional opening in the rules, regulations, management and standards. We will implement high -standing policies for liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment. We will encourage first -class market -oriented, law -based and internationalized business environment. And we will share our development opportunities with the world to achieve mutual benefits.
Economic globalization is the only way to human progress. The multilateral trade -based trade system, focused on the WTO, was critical of promoting global trade, economic growth and sustainable development. Openness and cooperation are a historic trend. The world does not, and should not, return to mutual isolation or fragmentation. The whole world strives for cooperation in which both sides receive. The economic abuse that transfers the risks to others will eventually have a counter -effect. To make economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and more useful for all is the common responsibility of the international community.
Development is an inalienable right of all countries, not an exclusive privilege of several. International issues should be resolved through consultation, and all countries have to decide on the future of the world. There are no winners in the trade or tariff wars. Protectionism is a dead end. All countries should respect the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and common benefit. They should practice truly multilateralism, jointly oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism and defend the international system in downtown and the multilateral trade system in the center of the WTO. We are confident that the vast majority of countries, dedicated to fairness and justice, will stand on the right side of history and act in their best interests. The world must accept fairness and reject hegemonism!
