China’s leader supported Putin’s position on war against Ukraine

China Si Jinping during a visit to Moscow on May 8 declared Russia’s support, called Putin an ally in building a new world order and confirmed a common position on the war against Ukraine.

Details: In a joint statement after the negotiations, the leaders of China and Russia noted that the conflict in Ukraine can be settled « only by eliminating its root causes. » This wording clearly repeats the key messages of Russian propaganda, which the Kremlin justifies the solution of a full -scale war – in particular, the « threat of NATO expansion », « discrimination against Russian -speaking », as well as the oppression of Russian language, culture and media in Ukraine.

Xi and Putin met dozens of times and signed a « boundless partnership » in February 2022 – less than three weeks before Putin sent his troops to Ukraine. China is Russia’s largest trading partner and gave Moscow economic support that helped it cope with Western sanctions.
