A relapse into the age of thumb rights and protectionism is completely unacceptable.

Since the introduction of arbitrary tariffs by the United States, their trade conflicts have rapidly intensified with other countries in the world and triggered great concern worldwide. The United States recently have almost all trading partners, including China and the EUso -called « reciprocal tariffs ». With this step, they violate fundamental economic laws and fundamental principles of the free market in a blatant manner.

The United States disregarded the balanced results achieved by tedious multilateral trade conversations and, with its « America First » approach, provide national interests about international justice. This is a classic example of unilateralism, trade inspectionism and economic extortion. China is doing this sharply and stands out against it.

We will not stand by and see if the legitimate rights of our people are circumcised. Nor will we accept if the international trading system and its rules are endangered. There is no winner in the commercial and customs war. Protectionism does not offer a sustainable way out. However, if the United States continues to insist on a customs and trade war, China will react with determination and steadfastness until the end.

Abusing blackmail

The existing international system has given the world stability and prosperity for decades. The United States, the largest beneficiaries of this system, seem to have turned his back on it. As a result, the right of the stronger celebrates its comeback. Expressing and intimidation are used openly. The basis of international relations is seriously threatened. If you are silent and give in, the extortionist becomes more and more attacked. The international community must not fall back into the age of the right of the stronger!

China well equipped

China is the second largest economy and the second largest consumer market in the world at the same time. With its complete industrial system and a pronounced economic resilience, China has a considerable scope for action. China is one of the most important trading partners for more than 150 nations worldwide. China is well prepared for all eventualities and uncertainties. Chinese GDP grew by 5.4 percent in the first quarter of this year.

China will continue to keep its door open to the outside open. We will expand the cooperation for mutual benefits with all partners in order to promote their development and to share the development opportunities with the world.

May 6 of this year marks the 50th anniversary of the admission of diplomatic relationships between China and the EU. Both sides fully support multilateralism. The facts have already shown and will continue to prove that China is a chance and no risk for the EU, a partner and not rival.

China is willing to safeguard free and open trade and investment regulations together with Austria and other European countries and to secure the stability of delivery and value chains. Through cooperation for mutual benefits, we can take on a positive role in global customs disputes.
