China Download Sanctions against Ilhan Kyuchuk
China has canceled sanctions against members of the European Parliament, including Bulgarian MEP Ilhan Kyuchuk of the MRF and Renew Europe, announced the chairman of the institution Roberta Metsola on Wednesday night.
The sanctions were imposed on 10 persons and three organizations, including five MEPs, as well as the parliamentary human rights subcommittee in 2021 in response to Western measures against Chinese officials introduced for persecution against the Uighur community.

The rest of the parliamentarians are Reinhard Buticofer (Greens/ESA, Germany), Michael Galler (EPP, Germany), Rafael Gluxman (Socialists and Democrats, France) and Miriam Lexman (EPP, Slovakia). Of the five, only Beauty is no longer a MEP.

She added that the Beijing relationships « remain complex and multifaceted » and that the best approach to them is through engagement and dialogue.

The ten parliamentarians and employees have banned themselves and their families from traveling to China, as well as related organizations to do business with China.
Asked earlier on Wednesday about reports that Beijing would cancel sanctions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jikun said at a press conference that « economic and commercial cooperation between China and Europe is complementary and mutually beneficial. »

The European Parliament has announced that Beijing has begun attempts to restore the interrupted links in September 2024.
