China: Beijing warning for duties – « Do not conclude agreements with the US against us »
China has warned countries seeking exceptions from US President Donald Trump’s duties not to conclude agreements against it.
« If international trade returns to the ‘Jungle Law’, all countries will become victims’
Beijing’s warning comes as dozens of US trade partners are trying to negotiate with the US government – and for the harsh « reciprocal » duties suspended until July, as noted by the Al Jazeera.
« Settlement cannot bring peace and compromise will not win respect, » a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Monday.
« Considering the interests of others to get the so -called exceptions for temporary self -benefits is like a tiger negotiation, ultimately leads to failure for both parties and hurts all those involved, » he said.
Although China respects countries’ efforts to resolve their commercial differences with the US, they should also « stand by the side of justice and law » and « on the right side of history, » the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stressed.
« It is especially important to emphasize that China is strongly opposed to any place to reach agreements to the detriment of Chinese interests, » the Chinese spokesman said.
The trade war between the US and China continues.
China speaks for « mutual countermeasures »
« If such a situation occurs, China will not accept it and receive a decisive mutual countermeasures, » a spokesman for the Commerce Ministry said.
The Chinese ministry issued the announcement following Bloomberg News’ report last week that the Trump government intends to push countries demanding duties relief to reduce their trade with China.
US officials are considering plans to push trade partners to stop importing extra goods from China and impose duties on imports from specific countries with close ties to the Asian giant, Bloomberg said, citing sources knowing the matter.
How has the Washington and Beijing trade evolved
Although Trump announced a 90 -day pause for « mutual » duties on imports from dozens of countries, his government has intensified the trade war with Beijing, increasing 145%of Chinese export taxes.
China, which is committed to « fighting to the end » if Washington continues to escalate the trade dispute, has retaliated by imposing 125% duties on US exports.
US Secretary of Finance Scott Bessed said more than 70 countries have contacted to express interest in negotiating trade agreements.
Japanese officials visited Washington last week to launch talks aimed at securing basic exports, including cars and steel, while South Korea officials are expected to launch negotiations at the ministerial level.
Despite the escalation of US attacks on China, Trump said last week that he was finally expecting to close a « very good » trade deal with Beijing.
In a statement Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce accused the Trump government of engaging in « hegemony policy » and « unilateral bullying » under the guise of « reciprocity ».
« If international trade returns to the ‘jungle law’, all countries will become victims, » his spokesman said.
