Police are dealing with thousands of cases.
Košice. They don’t go to school, families are losing money. The authorities in the Košice region record thousands of such children. Turrowing is growing and significantly interferes with the educational process, the life of children and their families.
The police deal with cases of threats to the moral education of youth related to the unjustified absence of children in schools. Municipalities record offenses for which they give parents fines.
One of the most affected municipalities, fighting with increasing truancy, which concerns not only primary school but also preschool facilities, is a large Ida in the district of Košice-okolie.
Her mayor Peter Nagy (Alliance) points out that the problem is already beginning in preschool children.
He explains that they have a kindergarten, a preschool facility where children from the age of five, and elementary school. 78 children are enrolled in pre -school facilities, 570 pupils for elementary school.
« The truancy is beginning to appear in a pre -school facility and the situation is particularly bad in elementary school. Children often do not go to teaching, and although they are often notoriously the same pupils, unfortunately new ones are growing in a big number, » explains the mayor.
They register approximately 90 children per month who omites school, which represents about fourteen percent of their total number in pre -school and school facilities in the municipality.

They reach for them to benefits
One of the tools to which the municipality is trying to solve the problem is the fine for offenses and withdrawal from benefits.
« We are the recipients of these benefits and withdraw fines for unjustified hours. We only issue the rest of the money after collisions into sanctions, » says Nagy.
However, the amount of fines often exceeds the subsistence minimum that the municipality has to pay. The mayor explains that despite fines, children do not go to school. Sanctions are thus packaged.
« Parents then come to the municipal office and ask how much we will pay them now. Often they get only a minimum amount needed to survive, the rest goes to fines, » the mayor describes.
Thus, the municipality addresses truancy also in the form of offense proceedings. At the joint municipal office, they determine the amount of the fine for truancy depending on how many pupils of unjustified hours have.

Shocking does not help
Nagy describes that they summon their parents, talk to them, but often without the outcome. « It’s sad, but that’s right. »
On the contrary, they also have situations where children come to kindergarten themselves, often without the knowledge of their parents. They know they’ll get a snack there, lunch I olovrant. « They often feel better there than at home, which complicates the situation, » Nagy adds.
