Children are the main victims of the conflict in Sudan
The United Nations (UN) has released a shocking report where millions of children are in danger due to the alarming increase in sexual violence against children in a country that has been at war since 2023.
At the beginning of last year, this body reported that 221 children suffered sexual violence in the hands of armed men during attacks in urban areas that occurred in nine states of Sudan – there are reports that more than 30% of victims were boys, including a group with 16 children under five and four babies.
These statistics were collected from gender -based violence service providers that operate in the region, highlighting the serious impact of continuous violence on the younger and most vulnerable members of society.
Several human rights organizations have denounced numerous atrocities, including sexual violence and forced marriages of children carried out by the two factions involved in the conflict. The recent conclusions indicate that 61,800 children have been displaced internally since the beginning of the war.
The conflict in Sudan began in April 2023 between military forces and the paramilitary group known as fast support forces, and has already caused at least 20,000 dead, although there are estimates indicating that the actual number may be even higher. In addition, the war scenario dislocated more than 14 million people, leading to hunger in various areas of the country.
