Chamber majority for fireworks ban is round, now that NSC is OM

A majority of the House of Representatives is in favor of a fireworks ban for consumers, after NSC announced on Tuesday afternoon, behind an initiative law of GroenLinks-PvdA and the Party for the Animals. This Thursday will be debated on the proposal, and next Tuesday the House of Representatives will vote.

NSC MP Faith Bruyning, responsible for fireworks, said Tuesday after the group meeting in which her party was finished with doubts: « I have good news, we as NSC are out, we are before a fireworks ban. » According to Bruyning, « the risk for the police, ambulance staff and emergency services is just too great ».

In January the CDA agreed with a ban, and last week the VVD decided to go, which made 74 MPs in favor. The question this week was whether NSC, or DENK, would help two parties who doubted the prohibition on a majority.

Many victims

The treatment of the fireworks ban already started in 2020, but in recent years a majority has been found far away. That is why GroenLinks and the PvdD decided to postpone the handling of their law. After last New Year – in which many victims fell and the police and emergency services complained about fireworks – the initiators saw that a majority was probably starting to become, and they continue the treatment.

An important factor in the emergence of a majority was an amendment from the ChristenUnie together with CDA and SGP, in which they proposed to give mayors the opportunity to admit associations – under certain safety conditions – to buy fireworks. The VVD called that proposal as a condition, and NSC also refers to it. Bruyning: « We think it is very important that it can still be organized in organized form, because experiencing together is part of the tradition. »
