Chairwoman of parents of accidental children after TV appearance Tom Waes: « Sorry and shame, I’m having a hard time with that »
During his first TV performance on Monday evening Vive Le Vélo Tom Waes came back to the accident he caused near the Kennedytunnel. He indicated that he regretted and ashamed. But that is not enough, says Annemie Hemelaers, chairman of the Parents of Arms Save, VZW vzw association.
« I couldn’t sleep all night. And I made the consideration: you can come and tell it all, but for us it was done immediately. I have a hard time with that, » says Annemie Hemelaers, who lost a daughter herself, on Radio1.
She refers to Tom Waes’ TV performance on Monday evening Vive Le Vélo. « The shame is huge. I feel guilty towards my children, my girlfriend, my parents, » it sounded, among other things. And so much promille, » says Hemelaers. « Regret and shame, I am having a hard time with that unless he never gets drunk in a car. Unless he wants to do an advertising campaign for us and says he realizes how much sadness and pain he has done. It must be in the long term. Especially if you know that 1 in 10 accidents is under the influence, then you know enough. »
Hemelaers also emphasizes that the well -known presenter has an « exemplary function ». But that if he can « really come to the insight, it might be something beautiful ».
