CGDIS helps with a large forest fire in the Belgian Houffalize

A spectacular forest fire occurred on Saturday afternoon in Houffalize in the north of the Luxembourg province. More precisely, in the forests of Achofe, not far from the well -known brewery, which produces the beer La Chouffe. Around 100 hectares of forest went up in flames.

The emergency call was received on Saturday at 2.20 p.m. at the Zone de Secour Luxembourg (meant the Belgian province), as its commander said. A large contingent of emergency services and fire trucks was used on site to combat the flames that were heated by the strong wind.

A total of more than 60 firefighters were on site. Civil protection was also in use. The CGDIs’ firefighters were also requested by their Belgian colleagues to support.

A house preserved from the flames

The use of a house that was threatened by the flames and fish breeding could be secured, as the Public de Wallonie service announced in the course of the afternoon of different Belgian media.

On Saturday evening, firefighters were still on site to get the flames under control.

The Public de Wallonie service had warned of such a scenario in early April. The very dry weather conditions at the beginning of spring in connection with the state of vegetation favor the outbreak and spread of fires.

In the past few days, the CGDIS had to move out several times because of vegetation fires, which were luckily less than the fire in the province of Luxembourg this Saturday. Also on Saturday there was a fire at the CR 105 at Eischen.
