CFL submits a record-Netto result of 25.6 million euros

In 2024, the CFL group confirmed its strategic goal: to be the first choice for the mobility of private customers and the preferred partner for business customers, « thanks to the cover of the entire mobility chain, from the first to the last mile, » as the company announced on Monday.

In the report presented, the « successes and services (…) in the context of the strategy of the group and a historical investment plan are presented » – with the aim of continuing to remain the preferred mobility choice in Luxembourg, as Jeannot Waringo, Chairman of the CFL Board of Directors, emphasizes.

View of the core business

While the core business of the CFL is still strongly geared towards rail traffic, the multimodality and a number of additional services would make the group a comprehensive provider of mobility and logistics solutions.

In passenger transport, the highlight of 2024 for the company was the commissioning of the first six Coradia Stream High Capacity railcar. These 34 railcars will be available by 2026 and offer 46 percent more seat capacity.

The Flex brand’s car sharing offer, operated by the subsidiary CFL Mobility, continues to enjoy great popularity and recorded a customer increase of 28.64 percent in 2024, as can be seen from the annual report.

1,000 trains per day

CFL’s passenger and freight traffic with more than 1,000 trains per day on a single rail network is supported by a railway infrastructure, which is maintained and maintained by the infrastructure operator of the CFL according to the highest safety and quality standards. According to the annual report, 264 working days were spent in 2024.

As in previous years, investments in personnel, material and technology would aim to use the exponential development of mobility needs in Luxembourg and the Large Region, in particular, by putting on the track, « a means of transport that meets the social and ecological challenges of our time. »

The results of 2024 undoubtedly testify to our commitment to the continuous improvement of mobility.

The CFL year 2024 in numbers

• New record with 31.3 million passengers in the CFL trains (28.7 million in 2023, plus nine percent)
• Improvement of the punctuality of trains to 90.8 percent (90.1 percent in 2023)
• 2.9 million passengers on the CFL buses
• 503 new settings (515 in 2023) and 25,000 processed applications
• Investments of the CFL in rolling material and equipment of 179.6 million euros (140.5 million euros in 2023)
• Commissioning of the first six Coradia railcars and modernization of the TER2N-NG series
• Investments in the infrastructure on behalf of the fund du Rail in the amount of 287.7 million euros (256.3 million euros in 2023)
• Promotion of the logistics activities « Made in Luxembourg » with 90,847 shipments relocated from the road to rail and 2,215 million tons of kilometers transported goods
• Covering 15 percent of the electricity requirement by photovoltaics generated in the large region
• Record sales of 1.215 billion euros (1.134 billion euros in 2023)
• Record net result of 25.6 million euros (18.3 million euros in 2023).

The report 2024 underlines the commitment of the CFL to reconcile financial success and responsibility towards customers and to take into account the need to « counter the climatic challenges. The results of 2024 undoubtedly testify to our commitment to the continuous improvement of mobility, for economic development and for the protection of our environment, » emphasizes Jeannot Waringo.

5,199 employees in the company

« We can be proud to operate a private customer base that has doubled in 20 years and at the same time pursue a historical investment plan so that the railway remains the backbone of mobility in Luxembourg and the border regions, » adds Marc Wengler, General Director of the CFL group. Thanks to the daily commitment of the 5,199 employees, one is able to realize the mobility concept, « by working on the improvement and further development of our train fleet, our service offer as well as the maintenance and modernization of the railway infrastructure ».
