Cerna – Belasca Hydroenergetic arrangement, green wave


The Environmental Agreement for the completion of the works on the Cerna – Belasca hydroenergetic arrangement was issued on Tuesday, the Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet announced.

″ Cerna – Belasca is one of the oldest hydropower projects in Romania. 45 years have passed since the first works, and the investment was stopped in the 1990s, at an 80%stage, « said Mircea Fechet.

According to the official, the commissioning of the arrangement will lead to supplementation of the average electricity production capacity by 40.2 GWh/year, and in addition, by accumulating a useful volume of 7.11 million metric water in the Cornereva dam, the storage capacity of approximately 4.15 GWh of electricity will be ensured.

« Green wave for the completion of the works on the Cerna-Belasca hydropower, a project that is part of the strategic investment package that puts Romania on the path of energy independence. We issued the environmental agreement for the objective located in the localities of Băile Herculane, Mehadia and Cornereva from Caraș-Severin county, which will lead to the average energy capacity. In addition, by accumulating a useful volume of 7.11 million mc in the Cornereva dam, the storage capacity of approximately 4.15 GWh Electricity is ensured, ”Fechet wrote in a post on Facebook.

According to the MMAP, the studies on the project have been submitted to the public from October 2, 2024, not registered requests for organizing a public debate and no observations regarding the project or the results of the elaborated studies.

« The investment will be made by Hidroelectrica and is added to those already in different phases of execution, by which we capitalize in the interest of Romanians the resources of hydropower, we strengthen the energy security of Romania and we make sure that we keep the invoices to electricity », wrote Fechet.
