Protesters for May 1st, organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (CCM), asked the Parliament to make amendments to the Minimum Wage Act to increase it to 500 euros.

CCM President Slobodan Trendafilov has asked the crowds to turn their backs on the Parliament for what they said, as it is when the worker turns his back.

– Today on this side of the barricades we are looking for a dignified salary for dignified work, on the other side of the barricades are the ones who enjoy privileges. Your luxury is ours. Please, even symbolically, turn all your back as I turn to them, to feel what it is like when the worker turns your back. We promised them that we would come more, we would come much more, if they did not make changes to the minimum wage law and do not increase all other salaries, if not – we at a minimalist, they at a minimalist – Trendafilov said.

As he said, it is unfortunate that on May 1, when the workers’ struggle for eight-hour working hours, « part of these behind us passed a law that enables Macedonia to have a 12-hour workday, something that disappeared in the world in 1886. »

– It is unfortunate to enjoy privileges, 79 percent increased salaries, shipping percent higher than the minimum wage, parliamentary buffet cheaper than a workers’ canteen, and to refuse to make amendments to the minimum wage law, an increase to 500 euros, for 100 euros in salaries, and workers, We are looking for the fastest that they can show that they are for the workers and that they are with the workers – Trendafilov said.

The protest march began in front of the workers ‘home, and after the Assembly, the participants headed to the Chamber of Commerce where employers were told to « not hide » because workers « earn their bread, and nothing left » and that the union will continue to be « on the workers’ bumper ».

The May Day protest demanding that CCM be the minimum wage to be 500 euros, all other salaries to be increased by 100 euros and to respect collective agreements and workers’ rights ends in front of the government.
