The claims of the Chinese batteries would put them in front of the big Western opponents. Currently, Tesla vehicles have an autonomy of up to 321 kilometers in 15 minutes.

The German Mercedes-Benz recently introduced the purely electric solid CLA sedan, which has up to 325 kilometers within 10 minutes, using a fast charging station.

Analysts have said that the development of high -speed charging systems by BYD and CATL will help eliminate consumer fears about EV driving range, although there are questions about how quickly companies can bring these technologies outside China amid growing geopolitical tensions.

Up to 800 kilometers with a charge

The second generation of Shenxing battery, which can boast of 800 kilometers with one charge, can achieve a maximum speed of 2.5 kilometers per second, the company said at an media event before the Shanghai Motor Show this week.

« We are looking forward to working with more industry leaders to broaden the limits of overload through real innovation, » said Catl’s technology chief Gao Juan, adding that the new batteries want « the standard for electric vehicles ».

Juan said the new Shenxing battery will be installed on more than 67 EV models this year. He later told reporters that the energy density would not be sacrificed as a compensation for rapid charge.

During the technology day, CATL also introduced the new sodium ion battery, which, he said, will begin to be massively produced in December. The NAXTRA battery is able to give autonomy about 200 kilometers for a hybrid vehicle and 500 kilometers for a purely electric vehicle, according to Juan.

Sodium -ion batteries work well at extreme temperatures

Sodium ion batteries are considered cheaper and safer alternative to lithium batteries widely used to store energy because they work better at both very high and low temperatures.

But the amount of energy they can produce in relation to their size has long been lagging behind the lithium batteries, making sodium hives non -practices so far.

The new technology is also closely monitored as a possible solution to reduce the world’s dependence on China for critical minerals, as sodium -ion batteries do not use lithium resources.

At the event, Juan argued that the new sodium -ion battery would allow the industry to move from « dependency on a single resource » to « energy freedom » and remodel the global energy landscape.

He added that he is in discussions with various companies about the use of sodium -ion batteries in their vehicles.
