Catia Hultquist: Senior takes revenge in a youth -fixed time
Sheep, refined, fearless. Bargain right-Gandalf-Style. Rarely has the friendly veteran and truth -owning senior felt as right as now. Hack in heels with the MILF trend comes the Oldies, that is, the 65-plus, revenge. 2025 is old again the oldest and no longer a diffuse age segment for phasing out. Old People own.
Swedish -made bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, 65, set the tone when she held her famous installation sermon in Washington in January where she appealed that President Trump should « give grace to people who are afraid of what is to come, » for example transgender and migrants. A speech that did not fall into good earth with Trump and his worshipers. « Anyone who holds this sermon should be added to the deportation list, » wrote, among other things, Republican Congress Member Mike Collins at X.
What really did Edgar Budde so brave? The New York Times even called the speech « an extraordinary act of public resistance ». It is obviously required a certain personality to say what « no one else says », but it is probably no wild guess that age and experience helped. In Sweden, Edgar Budde was clearly backed by former Archbishop Antje Jackelén, 69, who emphasized that « the church should resist when the worldly power is divine », here in DN (23/1).
And all while Trump makes one hair-raising play after another in connection with Russia/Ukraine negotiations, ex-top diplomat Jan Eliasson, 84, has become a favorite in the news broadcasts. When he says things like « it becomes our job to gather for Ukraine and for our own security, that we stand up for democracy » and radiate super experience, a beneficial adult in the room-feeling-far beyond the TV studio is spread.
The same is true when conservative politicians such as Gunnar Hökmark, 72, (unlike some right -wing) stand up against Trump's and Vice President Vance Gaslighting. « If you, like the United States, want to deny who started the war, you cannot contribute to what is required for peace, » he recently wrote on X.
The senior is no longer The bifs in a youth -fixed contemporary, without the long -awaited main act. Like 87-year-old Jane, classical speech is already being found at the Sag gala. In the fictional world, Robert De Niro, 81, incarnates the longing when he shows up as a glorified aged man of the Netflix thriller « Zero Day ».
After the United States is hit by a terrible cyber attack, a commission is created to investigate the crime. Set to lead the group is ex-president George Mullen (De Niro). His broad political foundation and popularity make him particularly suitable for the assignment, says the strategic female president.
He reluctantly thanks yes and is soon drawn into a nightmare scenario in a polarized country full of aggressive, conspiratorial and demoralized citizens – not quite different storming hools from 2021. However, the leadership style of the mullet is the opposite of the current president: low -key, straightforward, sheep. He emphasizes and praises the team in front of himself and chooses the family over political power.
Admittedly, mullen has one Number of worrying signs (here is hinted at – the conspiratorial alternative that dementia symptoms may be due to an enemy fiddled with his medication) but the president's impressive old man and truth -seeking everything overcome.
« Zero Day » was recorded before the American election in 2024 and the action scratches somewhat to reality. But Mullen still manages to become the image of a type of leader there is a severe lack of and that we can all be inspired by: a non-anguish and experienced old man who dares to say. Someone who has the courage to become the hub of a turbulent good-day shaft world, guided by chainsaw-wiping and power-hungry dark men.
