Catia Hultquist: « Girls of Stockholm » delivers from box one

Yet, the time of surprises is not over. Hardly has the Liberals’ Equality Minister and Party Secretary surprised with their unsaturated sinned departures until it is time for the next surprise – this time in the reality world. When it comes to reality series, extra many people seem to feel called this year, the Läckberg family for example, but few are selected.

A series in the genre that aroused anger long before the premiere was the « Girls of Stockholm », the Prime Video venture that would show the life behind the social media scenes of the four influencers Alice Stenlöf, Hanna Friberg, Klara Elvgren and Lovisa Worge. The initial media military was due to the fact that the four women were considered for whites, too equal and for peasantry (no one was from Stockholm). The Norwegian model, « Girls of Oslo », with classic bitch dinners and planless partying, did not directly contribute to raising expectations.

Judge my surprise when « Girls of Stockholm » actually turns out to deliver from box one. Of course, this is not a sink -realistic problem formulation à la « subway » we will see. But based on the girls’ lives as famous influencers, it still feels like we get to meet them behind the insta phase and take part in their real problems. It is Lovisa who has endometriosis and will find it difficult to get pregnant, it is Alice who is harassed because she has a girlfriend, it is the toddler mother Klara who has been cheated on money, and it is Hanna who is single and sometimes feels alone.

The fact that reality professional Bianca Ingrosso – Lovisa’s former manager and now business partner – participates in the first section and delivers a number of entertaining acids is another sign that the production team knows what they are doing. Lovisa also seems to have learned from the « Wahlgren world » star and turns out to possess the same ability to comment on the course of events with humor and salt.

It is of course one Expected amount of glamor in the program but it is weighed by an unexpected dose of blackness. We get to accompany Lovisa out in the archipelago (in swindling Chanel flip flops) to what appears to be an lavish midsummer party. Cut to the sunny derailment and nightmare filling that followed among some guests. The fact that the main characters themselves are business women rather than the upper class becomes clear when talking right about the price tag for jobs, clothing and envelope fees.

The influencer profiles also do not weigh in to discuss scandals they were associated with. Above all, it is Hanna who, just because Snickesnacka in her podd manages to attract media fractions as successfully as Kent concerts attract gray -haired. But I also hope to hear Lovisa talk about how she looks at the hypersmal ideal that she contributes to on social media. It would be to take the responsibility that she until now effectively has taken away – probably also necessary if the goal is to « be taken seriously ».

In an interview in SVT’s Morning Studio, the gang says that – unlike in their own channels – they do not have control over the final picture shown in the program. If that is true, it could be the explanation that this reality is so much better than the said « Läckbergs » (Viaplay).

It is probably not an over Wild guess that Camilla Läckberg has had a veto right when it comes to the final version of her program – and possibly it has also laid the hook for production. So far, the series has only shown a rich, happy and charming family who likes to invite to a party. And as a writer, Camilla Läckberg certainly knows that what makes us endure the happiness of others and partying in the long run is precisely that scab, the threat that lurks in the dark.

« Girls of Stockholm » has it – « Läckbergs » does not. Which of course is the top for a family. But less good for a reality.
