Cartel Alfa is not satisfied with Bolojan either. What president he wants

« In the tense context between the two tours of the presidential elections, the National Trade Union Confederation Cartel Alfa draws attention to a major problem that was, unfortunately, treated with too many candidates: the lack of a real and authentic dialogue between the state institutions and the citizens that the president And the public institutions.

The trade unionists say that « neither in crises, nor in periods of stability » has been seen a « real concern » for meetings with unions, civil society organizations or employees’ representatives.

« The situation has not been improved under the current interim president, Ilie Bolojan. In recent months, the Presidential Administration has hosted a series of meetings exclusively with the business environment – Concordia, Foreign Investor Council, Amcham, OMV Petrom or commercial banks – without the unions or representatives of the workers are the social partners. Workers and employers, represented by unions, respectively patronized.

The representatives of the trade union confederation say that the president can offer, by dialogue, a solution marked by a high budget deficit, a large commercial deficit, an accelerated increase in state expenses (+84% in Ian-Feb 2025 compared to the same period last year) and a debt.

« The current economic crisis will not be able to be resolved by blind and austerity. These policies, recurrently promoted by past governments, have only deepened inequalities, decrease the level of public services and demobilize the most valuable resource of the state: its people. Alfa Cartel recalls that « not the expenses are the problem », but « the lack of income collected equitably and sustainable ».

« The real fiscal reform means progressive taxation of the assets, combating tax circumstances, closing the legal portions that allow the great assets to evade from the solidarity contribution. Austerity is a political choice, not a technical necessity. At the same time, we find that the current candidates have as vision in solving the problems of Romania, Rare, which are used with priority in key industrial sectors.

Romania needs a new social contract

CNS « Crtel Alfa » claims that Romania needs a new social contract, and the president of the country must be « the first to support it ».

« This means a real commitment for constant dialogue with unions, employers and civil society, for transparency in major decisions and to reaffirm the role of public services. There is a need for policies to put people in the center of attention, not only the figures. We already have the necessary tools for this new social contract: the European Pillar of Social Rights, the Declaration from the Hulpe coherent and solid for promoting better working and living conditions in Romania ”, explains Cartel Alfa representatives.

The trade union confederation expresses its « total availability » to work together with the future presidency to transform these principles into concrete policies, for the benefit of all workers.

The president of the country does not take the place of the chairs of trade, investors’ associations or lobby groups. The economy does not mean only capital, but also work. Not only investors, but also an employees, a real leader, does not understand a real leader, Romania needs a president who is present, lucid and employed towards the whole society ”, the quoted statement said.
