A large part of the city center of Antwerp was closed for two hours on Saturday afternoon for all car traffic due to a dangerous oil trail. That has since been cleaned up and the streets in the center have since been released again.
Around 11 am, the police closed a number of streets in the center of Antwerp, in the vicinity of Sint-Andries and the Wilde Sea, for traffic.
A dangerous oil trail ensured slippery. The police also ask pedestrians and cyclists to be careful.
The fire brigade started cleaning up the oil. « Due to an oil trail, it is dangerously slippery in the vicinity of the Wilde Sea, » said the Antwerp police « , among other things, in the Groendaalstraat, Lombardenvest, Korte Gasthuisstraat, Schrijnwerkerstraat, Wiegstraat, Steenhouwersvest. A little after 1 p.m. the city was able to report that it is « everywhere safe » and that traffic can go through again. « Some clean products still have to work. We will continue to clean everything tomorrow, » the city still writes on X.
