« It means a lot to me to be elected to the top of the party in which I grew up, » said Hartmann in her inaugural speech.
Hartmann stands for a social -liberal course of the Democratic Party and leads the party in times « in which liberal values are screwed back in which populism gains the upper hand and we are confronted with alternative truths, » said Hartmann. In view of the increasing strength of autocratic tendencies, the protection of democratic freedoms in importance, Hartmann said, among other things, to the USA.
This social dialogue is now very important because the challenges we have to master are too great to avoid being unable to be in this country.

A captain in the distance and yet so close
Another focus in Hartmann’s speech was to strengthen social cohesion. In doing so, she discussed the conflict between the government and the unions in labor law issues and called for the resumption of the talks to the « Social Diol », which Premier Luc Frieden (CSV) had announced at the beginning of the year. « This social dialogue is now very important because the challenges we have to master are too great to avoid being in this country, » said Hartmann.
Another challenge for the future is to actively shape sustainable progress. « We have to keep up with the technical and social requirements, with a reliable infrastructure, with a competitive economy, with innovative research, with an efficient state and with intelligent ideas for sustainable energy that protects our climate ».
At the end of her speech, the mother of a four and a half -year -old daughter dealt with the well -being of the children and the risk of digital dependence on the latest age. She called for more attention to the health of the children and to find a balance between strengthening their rights and the protection of their mental health. And she pointed out that the dangers that emerge from exaggerated screen consumption can also be transferred to adults.
