Colors, shine, music and endless dance make up for another year of Rio de Janeiro Carnival in Brazil.

This year the events of the big celebration began on February 28 and will run until March 8th.

The main events begin on Friday afternoon before Clean Monday and peak with the parade of the winners next Saturday.

The heart of the carnival is the competitions of the Saba Schools, which take place in the famous Sambodrome, a stage specially designed for the world's most famous carnival.

In addition to the official parades, the city hosts numerous street parties, known as blocos, scattered throughout the city. And this year it is estimated that viewers exceeded two million.

Carnival Rio de Janeiro: The « Blocao » event

This year's Carnival started with « Blocao », a popular outdoor event where about 100 dogs, dressed as superheroes, clowns and cartoon characters, marched with their owners in the Barra Da Tijuca neighborhood.

This event, with over 20 years of history, gathered about 300 people who enjoyed the music samba and the interaction between pets and families.

One of the most important news of this year's carnival is the farewell appearance of legendary singer Saba, Neguinho da Beija-Flor. At the age of 75, Neguinho will lead his 50th consecutive parade with the Saba-Flor Samba School before retiring from the parades.
