Caritas special commission wants to view the government’s legal opinion

Since October, the chamber special commission has been inviting the key figures of the Caritas affair to get a precise picture of the processes in the 61 million euro fraud. Among other things, representatives of the board of directors of Caritas, the directorate of the aid organization, the banks involved and the public prosecutor were interviewed.

Gradually, the work of the Commission is coming to an end and with the (manageable) knowledge of the past sessions in the head, one again wanted to feel the government on the tooth. Prime Minister Lux Frieden, Justice Minister Elisabeth Margue and Minister of Cooperation Xavier Bettel appeared on Monday.

Peace: Caritas Rescue was not possible in existing structure

Essentially, however, everyone involved remained in their well -known positions. The Prime Minister again emphasized that a rescue of Caritas in its old structure was not possible due to the debts and demands of the banks.

He finds it « right and important » that the MPs can ask the ministers in the framework, but also emphasized that mostly questions were asked that the government has already answered. « I again explained that it was the goal of the government to save Caritas’ activities in Luxembourg on the one hand (…) and on the other hand to see that the funds that the state gives are not in the wrong hands. We have achieved these two goals, » said Frieden.

In order to be able to understand the basis on which the government had decided against a rescue, the Commission asked, the publication of the two legal « Avis », which the government had created on the question of deduction in the summer.

Taina Bofferding from the LSAP again emphasized that she did not understand that not everyone involved in the summer « did » at a table « , especially since the prime minister » declared the boss matter « . However, she did not receive an answer to that.
