Caritas Board of Directors only claim to have learned about irregularities in July

The board of directors of the Caritas Foundation again emphasizes on Tuesday that he had no knowledge of the financial irregularities at the relief organization before July 15, 2024. On this date, it became known last year that Caritas had been betrayed by 61 million euros.

After Bouché had already objected to this last month, the Board of Directors in a press release emphasized again that on July 15, one was informed about the credit lines that the fraudsters could redirect to their accounts. « In this session, the board of directors called for urgent information and that all measures necessary due to the determined situation should be taken as soon as possible (…), » said the letter.

The board of directors had now turned to Bouché again to respond to Tom Brassel’s allegations: « Mr. Bouché formally explained that he was standing in regular exchange with Mr. Brassel, but Mr. Brassel never made him aware of a situation that would have required intervention by him or the board of directors, » said the press release. In the correspondence between the two there was no « no mention of an alarming situation at the level of Caritas ».

Already last month the former Caritas director Marc Crochet contradicted this representation. « Mr. Brassel always clearly showed me that he had spoken to an board member during my absence. I see no reason to doubt his statements. These were also confirmed to me by the person concerned, » said Crochet at the time to the « Luxembourg word ».
