Carefree fun ended in a tragedy. After 50 years, evidence appeared
In the summer of 1975, the Bailey family was eagerly waiting for a holiday trip to Kornwalia. On August 10, 8-year-old Helen spent the afternoon, playing near the house in Birmingham. She was last seen around 16.30, when she jumped happily on a skipping rope. When she did not return to dinner, worried parents immediately reported her disappearance.
Blue shorts, blue blouse and blue sneakers
The police immediately after receiving the application began an intensive search. The officers combed nearby wastelands, quarries and surrounding houses, but without results. He did not make a macabre discovery only the next morningaround 6.30, father Helen. The girl's body lay on her back, in the field near a forested area, which the locals called « Magic Forest ». Her throat was undercut. She was wearing blue shorts, a blouse and sneakers – it was this characteristic outfit that made the media give her the nickname « Little Girl Blue ».
The puzzle of the disappearance of the 8-year-old raises many doubts
Investigators discovered that Helen could have been seen around 19.10 when she crossed the tunnel under the M6 motorway. Some Witnesses also mentioned a red -haired man who was to spin around on the day of the crime. However, he could never be identified or listened to.
In 1976, the case stuck in a deadline. During the coroner's investigation, it was recognized that Helen's death could be the result of an « unfortunate accident. » The pathologist found no signs of fighting, and the circumstances of death did not clearly indicate murder. The local community began to create its own theories and even blamed two innocent boys about relationships with the tragedy.
Margaret Bailey, mother of Helen, never accepted that justice did not fulfill. Her determination led to the resumption of the investigation in 2014.
New evidence and chilling confession
Years later, as a result of re -analysis of evidence, experts questioned earlier findings. The new opinion of pathologists showed that Helen's neck wounds were much deeper than originally thought. In addition, signs of stewing were discovered, which clearly indicated the murder.
The largest breakthrough came in 2019.when the investigation was re -conducted. It turned out that the main suspect was John Sir, also known as Kenneth Etchells. He was interrogated in 1975, but he was never charged.
A few years after the crime of SIR He admitted to the murder of Helen three times. He claimed that he first strangled her, and then slid her throat with a pocket knife. At the time the girl was lost, he lived in Tamworth – just a few kilometers from the place where the body was found – and confirmed that he was in this area on the day of her death.
In 1991 SIR He was imprisoned for trying to murder his own mother. Despite earlier denominations, during interrogations in 2019, he claimed that admitting guilty was only a way to get to a psychiatric hospital. However, the most disturbing, his description of the crime coincided with the findings of pathologists from 2014 – information to which he had no access. When he was later asked about it, Sir replied that these terrifying similarities were « coincidence ».
Elevious killer « Little Girl Blue »
Although the police were convinced of the sir's guilt, there was a lack of evidence that could clearly lead to his conviction. The prosecutor's office decided that there were not enough grounds to make an indictment.
Despite the new evidence and testimonies of experts, the case of Helen Bailey still remains unsolved. The main detective Caroline Marsh, who reviewed the unresolved cases in 2014, testifying in court, emphasized that there was no doubt that the girl was victims of the murder. In her opinion, Kenneth Etchells, known as John Sir, was the perpetrator of this crime, and The investigation does not indicate the participation of any other person.
The Louise Hunt lace applied to the prosecutor's office for reconsideration of the decision regarding the initiation of the investigation. Unfortunately, despite the investigative efforts and the determination of the Helen family, the prosecutor's office decided that there were no real chances to bring sir in court.
Helen Bailey's family did not rest in the fight for justice for her daughter
It was another blow to a girl close. Her father, whose all his life persecuted the dramatic image of his daughter's body, He died without waiting for justice. Her mother, Margaret, who fought for the truth for decades, is still waiting for justice.
« I've never been the same, » she admitted in one of the interviews. – I lived in mourning all these years. She never left me, she is part of me every day. This event ruined our lives. I would like the case to finally find its final. Even if it's too late, it's better late than never.
