Carders make 16 thefts a day by 2024
PSP detained 149 cartooners last year, an increase of 43% compared to 2023. In urban centers there were an average of 16 thefts per day through this method last year.
The Public Security Police (PSP) reported on Tuesday, in a statement, that also identified 379 suspected cartoonists in their area of responsibility, the urban means last year.
The value represents an increase of 28% compared to 2023, being the highest number since 2020.
By 2020 the PSP identified 117 suspects, a number that rose to 206 by 2021, increasing again to 238 by 2022 and to 295 the following year according to PSP, detained cartels increased 43% last year compared to 2023, when 104 were detained.
In 2022 58 were arrested, in 2021 there were 18 and 32 in 2020.
Regarding the number of crimes of theft by portarists, PSP reports that it recorded 5,762 occurrences in 2024, an average of about 16 crimes per day, an increase of 11% compared to 2023.
According to PSP, in 2020 there were 2,956 of these crimes, in 2021 were 2,873, in 2022 were 4,850 and 5,194 in 2023.
In a statement, police warn of the possible use of networks related to this criminal phenomenon at Easter time, a time when a great population movement and greater concentration of people in commercial, tourist and public transport interfaces are expected.
